about

They are common in Belgium, the Netherlands, and northern France—the carillons on the towers. Anyone who thinks of the »Sch'tis« is, of course, correct.

For »Carillon de fer« I recorded a metallophone of a collection of objets trouvés provided by the installation artist Wolf Rabe. The piece, which came from a punch, already appeared on my first album. Its rough-legged and strangely injured sound seemed, to me, made for a free-swinging peal played by the wind as a carillonneur—heard perhaps in Vincent van Gogh's »The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen«.
